Neutral Milk Hotel live!!!!

Allright... that title is misleading. But last night Frightened Rabbit surprised the hipsters by playing a song in their encore by the magnificent Neutral Milk Hotel. They played Song Against Sex, and appropriately followed up with their own song against sex Keep Yourself Warm. Needless to say I was blown away, they didn't have the horns nor did they attempt to play the horn parts with a keyboard or another instrument but nonetheless it was quite impressive. The crowd however was not terribly excited about this cover. I assumed that the hipsters would embrace this but then one has to remember that Neutral Milk Hotel's last album came out over 10 years ago (god I'm getting old). People clapped but not as vigorously as they did for any song off the new album.

The Crowd in general was a little on the cheesey side... the opening act David Karsten Daniels was pretty cool in a Chad Vangaalen/ Neil Young sort of way. But his one man (with a drummer) Crazy Horse act was too quiet for the crowd which talked through the majority of the set. That being said Frightened Rabbit's encore opened up with an acoustic number without amplification... and the crowd kindly quieted and shouted down the few idiots who wouldn't shut the fuck up.
